Start with an 1800's traditional fisherman's Dory at Skill Level 1. Included are 24 pages of instructions, tools, paint, and glue for your first build. Continue at Skill Level 2 with a fully planked historic Norwegian Pram. Dories were developed on the East Coast in the 1800's and were descendants of the French settlers' bateaux of the 17th and 18th centuries. They were used extensively for fishing and lobstering, since they were easy and inexpensive to build and maintain. Skill Level I of the Shipwright Learning Series. Historically accurate, highly detailed wood model. Laser cut basswood parts for easy construction. Detailed plans and illustrated instruction manual. Clamps, tweezers, hobby knife, blades, saw blade, chisel blade, sandpaper, paint brushes, paint & glue. Instructions and prototype model by David Antscherl. Scale: 1:24 (1/2=1 foot). Most of those very expensive kits get started but never finished. The job is much too complex and the poor builder hasn't acquired the skills needed. For this second, intermediate kit, some previous knowledge is necessary in order to be successful. If you have already built the Model Expo Lowell dory kit, you are well prepared. If you haven't, I strongly recommend you do so first, as you will learn valuable techniques, tips and methods that will come in very useful for this model.
