BERRY SMACK wood model kit. BERRY Museum quality wooden model kit. True Plank - On - Frame construction! Open Box, Contents 100% Complete and in Excellent Condition. Berry was designed and built by R. Palmer Boatyards in Noank, Connecticut. The sloop, named after Captain John Henry Berry's daughter, was launched June 5, 1866. For 28 years she operated as a well smack, transporting live mackerel to market. Because sloops were fast and sturdy, they were popular East Coast fishing craft. However, as schooners became prevalent, Emma C. Berry was converted to a schooner rig. She was abandoned 30 years later when the vessel wore out. Berry's hull lines attracted a new owner.

Fixed up, she began a new career as a coaster, but was out of service again in 1931. She was rescued by F. In 1969, he presented Emma C. Berry to the Marine Historical Association in Mystic, Connecticut.

Model Shipways developed the Emma C. Designed by naval architect Ben Lankford the model is based on drawings and documentation provided by Nancy d' Estang, Supervisor of Shipyard Research and Documentation at Henry B.

At 3/8" = 1'0" scale (1:32), it is large enough for extensive detailing. More than 190 laser-cut parts simplify the building process. The model can be completed in different configurations. The hull can be fully planked or presented Navy Board style to reveal underlying frames and deck timbers. Interior detailing can be included or only partially completed as if the boat were under construction or being repaired. The model can be painted, or left natural and stained. Although a little more difficult than building it upside down, this permits adding all the inboard details. Parts for a building fixture are included, but the model builder must supply a building board. Structural parts, such as keel and bulkheads, are fine basswood, the choice of professional model builders. All wooden parts, from keel to sternpost, are laser cut for a perfect fit. Kit contains laser cut wooden parts, basswood hull planking strips and wood stock for launching ways.

A host of finely cast Britannia metal fittings and anchor shank. Brass is used for eyebolts, rings, chain and wire.

Walnut blocks and deadeyes come in five sizes, and 50 yards of black and gray line are provided for accurate rigging. Four large sheets of plans and detailed 40 page instruction manual by kit designer and naval architect Ben Lankford record every detail of construction.
