This high quality, Ranger 1937 America's Cup J Class yacht model is brand new, fully assembled and ready for display (not a kit). This model sailboat requires some easy semi-assembly you will need to raise up the mast, unfurl the sails and adjust the rigging. The rigging attaches with hooks (no knot tying). This Ranger 1937 sailboat model was specially designed & built by the plank on frame method. The hull has been painted with high gloss white topsides and a red bottom.

Inlaid wooden deck strips simulate the original teak deck. The scale deck hardware is hand tooled of metal.

Detailed rigging and crisp white sails with authentic stitching. The yacht model comes complete with a stand and nameplate. Numbered and dated certificate of authenticity included. This Ranger 1937 sailboat model was specially designed & built by the plank on frame method (joining multiple small pieces of basswood together on the hull). Detailed rigging and crisp white sails with authentic stitching (the sails in the pictures have been grayed slightly so that you can see them). The Ranger won the 1937 America's Cup, defeating 4-0 the Endeavour II of Britain, raced at Newport, Rhode Island.

In the last Race, Ranger had set a new Cup record over the triangular course, previously set by Endeavour I in the second race of the 1934 challenge, in 3 hours 9 minutes 1 second that is to say 1 minute 12 seconds less than the 1934 challenger. It would be the last time huge J-class yachts would race for the America's Cup. Harold Stirling Vanderbilt funded construction of the Ranger, and it launched on May 11, 1937. It was designed by Starling Burgess and Olin Stephens, and constructed by Bath Iron Works.

Tank tests were carried out with various models and they finally agreed on the model 77C of their designs, and tried to improve it, but in vain: the model was perfect. The choice of the model of Ranger astonished Burgess: without the test results no-one would have dared choose such a design. During the 1937 season, between June and September out of 37 races, including the America's Cup races, Ranger won 35 times. A full size replica was built in 200 3. The model is built exactly to scale as the original Ranger was. The task required skillful craftsmen hundreds of hours to accomplish. The model measures 25.6 long from bow to stern.
