Being offered is a home built electric powered model boat that seems to have been built using the plans from a 1948 issue of Mechanix Illustrated as a guide. The BOUNCIE II, is a scaled down version of a Chris-Craft 20 barrel back runabout. It measures 30 long with a 10 beam. The builder choose to use a TMY (Japan) horseshoe magnet electric motor rather than the gas McCoy.

49 glow engine shown in the plans. The motor is connected to a split gearbox with spring universal joints and twin drive shafts. Two long waterproof sleeves hold old Bright Star, 1 ½ volt, size D batteries. (When tested, motor did run, using an outside battery source). Construction includes ¼ plywood framing, 1/16 plywood coverings and balsa decking.

Both homemade and after-market hobby accessories are used. Homemade: plexi- glass windshield and support brackets, rudder arm and notched bracket. The 2 deck lights, on-off switch, throttle switch, deck hardware, shaft hangers, rudder and props are hobby shop accessories. On the stern is a plastic life preserver with a five inch ribbon attached. The model is in good condition for age, some typical repairs and re-gluing is needed (top decking, bang rails) and is in :as last used condition and has not been cleaned up. Offered, as-is, for display , due to age. The significance of the five inch ribbon, has not been determined?

Very worn and faded, red, white and blue with a Prussian-German-Maltese-Iron Cross emblem on a red back ground flag, (burgee). Internet searches show similar designs on military, navel and civilian marine issued medals, badges, awards, and show or contest souvenirs.

It could also represent a scale model of a full size boat entered in one of the American Power Boat Assc. Regattas of the 40's that was associated with the American Yacht Club, of NY. The model boat was found in Port Washington, on the North shore of long Island, New York, which is just across the sound from Rye, NY. An interesting addition to any advanced vintage model boat or Chris-Craft collection. Always interested in gas powered tether race cars of the 1940's. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution.
