The Bosphorus Sandal, also known as the fishing boat or rowboat among locals, has been used by fishermen since. The 1950s, both in the Marmara Sea and the famous Bosphorus in Istanbul. These boats are still used for net casting, bait fishing, and night fishing for bonito and bluefish, thanks to the LPG lamps. In the past, the construction techniques of these boats remained unchanged until the early 1980s, passing down knowledge from father to son and from master to apprentice. The Sandals were handcrafted in Ayvansaray (a district of Istanbul), mostly by craftsmen from Blacksea Coast. Initially, these boats were manufactured without engines, but later, engines were added with minor modifications. Wisconsin and Pancar branded engines used in agriculture were adapted to these boats. As a result, even in the strong currents of the Bosphorus, they were able to maneuver lightly with the engine power, maintaining a fixed position against the current, making it easier to engage the fish.

They could also secure the rudder in place by passing a leather strap over the tiller if desired. Packing is done with high precaution and care!
